Heroes: Sylar and Peter Must Die...

Forget for a minute that Sylar is horribly miscast and the actor playing Peter is just plain horrible. The real problem with these characters is that they're way too powerful. Sure the writers might come up with ever more contrived ways for them to lose control of their powers or become otherwise disabled.

At some point, however, the show will become implausible, uninteresting, or both. Every season will boil down to yet another showdown between the two most powerful characters. The way I see it, there's only one way out of this narrative trap: Sylar and Peter must both die.

I've made no secret of my displeasure with the frankly sloppy writing that's marred the start of this season. The rock paintings that never fade after years in the sun was ridiculous. And the suggestion that Sylar and Peter are brothers strikes me as too much like a soap opera or fairy tale.

But the latter storyline may have a possible saving grace. I'd like to think Angela is plotting to change the future by ridding the world of evil mutantkind using Sylar. Once he's killed them and accumulated their powers, she will sacrifice Peter to rid the world of Sylar.

It's admittedly dark, but if Heroes has balls, that's where they'll go...

Hey don't impugn Bigmouth, sir. How dare you.

I watched the first season of Heroes and liked it, kind of skipped the second, and have watched a bit of the third. My biggest hurdle is Suresh, whom I find supremely annoying.

At least somebody else thinks it. After the wreck that was season 2, and the season 3 premiere, I have a feeling Heroes will just pile up on the ol DVR. But I've been saying that same thing about Peter/Sylar for a while now, both terrible actors, both need to be killed (especially with these new villians that are supposedly as bad as Sylar).

Glad to see you're back. Ignore the first post. Ignorance comes in all forms ... Any way, I thought it was me regarding the lack of interest with this seasons show. Loved the first season, suffered through the second season, and really struggling to maintain interest during this season. Suresh irritated me in the past, but, he's really pushing buttons this season. For the first time, the dynamic that was Hiro and Ando has turned into a cartoon .... I'll continue to hang on; but, I don't know for how long ....

I don't understand why each season of Heroes is always caused by time travel. Can't Tim Kring come up with something else? Something better? Here you have a huge group of super-talented individuals... one would think that alone would yield some excellent adventures that don't require any bullshit time travel to get things going.

That's not to say time travel is 100% bad. It's fine, it can be a great plot device. But when you lean on it ALL THE DAMN TIME... "Oh no, the future is terrible and we've got to do something about it because one of us saw it!" ...sigh.

Season 1 was fun for a while. Season 2 got pretty icky. Season 3... has lost all splendor and now I only watch it to fill the void. ;_;

Personally, I really enjoy Zachary Quinto's Sylar. This year, they've taken a few unexpected turns in his development as a character, especially the ironically funny future with him as a daddy (used as a method to stave off "the hunger"). Another great feat that they've accomplished is to make the show's most horrific monster almost sympathetic simply by revealing his nature.

As bigmouth says, it'd sure be bold to kill off Peter and Sylar, but they'd likely see this as a ratings hit and avoid it assiduously. I'm sure that there will have to be some greater intervention to humble these 2 characters (perhaps a stronger character, divine intervention/ deus ex machina, or yet another parallel history).

At times the show's plot is vapid and unimaginative, relying too heavily on time travel (an oddly paradox-free variety). Yet other times there's something curious about the symbolism of their powers, the treatise on human weakness and of human nature itself. Only if it were a bit more tightly woven...

I enjoy reading your mind at work,

P.S. you need to balance the equation mathematically through the law of conservation of vowels...

solve for x:

douch + potatoe = potato + x

LOL everyone, and good points Big.

I missed a few episodes last season and am totally lost as to what is going on in season 3. Everyone seems to have a twin or lives in the past and future, or dies and comes back, and now there's the superfast ones too. Sigh.

And the Indian guy is turning into Brundle-Fly, oy!

I am still hanging on with this show. I thought most episodes this season have been good. My problems are:
1) Hiro must die. He is incredibly stupid and always does the most dumbass things. Also, he is stupid.
2) Mohinder is useless. His only contribution to this season so far has been as a reason to put Maya on screen in very little clothing. Not a bad job to have, though....
3) Sylar's eventual redemption is going to stretch believability to the breaking point, I'm afraid. It will need to take far longer than they have time for. In my opinion, HRG is more evil than Sylar. At least Sylar did his own dirtywork. HRG trying to force vortex man to kill Sylar for him was horrible.

(This isn't about HEROES so no one may ever read this, but . . .)
It's me . . . SKID the Farrady Tie Guy . . .
Just a random thought I had while driving down the road and listening to an old CASSETTE tape I found from my PAST where a friend and I recorded random stuff. ANYHOW, the tape is old and fading, but as we listened to it I could hear something strange that was indecipherable until I turned the tape over and played the other side . . . and realized that what I was hearing on Side ONE was what was recorded on SIDE TWO except that it was BACKWARDS.

. . . and man did it sound like the whispers on the island.

Just wondering if maybe the electromagnetic properties of the island cause it to act like some huge cassette tape recording conversations or even better . . . THOUGHTS from the past and somehow that what we are hearing on "SIDE TWO" (the time and place of the island as WE know/knew it) is what was recorded on SIDE ONE at some point in the past.

This does not explain why they are hearing it on their phones, or even in person, BUT it was just a strange observation causing me to ask: "Is it live or is it Memorex?!"

Anyone have any thoughts?

sylar is incredibly corny. it's mind-numbing.

Peter is one of the best characters on the show. His acting does lack a bit but I can get past that. Sylar can go as far as I am concerned!
